  2. Talked today with a co-worker and he said we need a couple of knifes and might need a gun. Do you know if this is possible or have you checked into it.

  3. I don't think a gun is needed....maybe a knife. What a have learned that as soon as you get on the trail for about a mile, there won't be any trouble. No one is going to hike a long way to mess with someone. But I have heard of people taking guns on the trail.

  5. All the people I have been following hiking the AT having even seen a bear, and they are very disappointed. If we hang our food every night I don't think they will be a problem. From what I understand, when they see you on the trail, they take off. The only problem we might have is if we get between a mother and her cubs. It's funny that the first thought I had was other people. I think they could be more of a problem than bears.

  6. I have a couple of buck knifes and a multi-tool and a big dive knife. When were you thinking of going to a hiking shop and where is it. I need to buy stuff a little at a time and might be able to get some stuff on ebay. Where do we sign up for hiking classes. Do you think we will get MREs to eat or live off the land. Ha Ha

  8. I am working on a spreadsheet so we can have a running look at what we need. I have been busy these last 2 weekends so I haven't had a chance to update lately. My friend Greg was telling me about a hiking store in Broad Ripple on the Monon. Maybe we could go there. I will find out more information. The closest REI is in the Chicago area. I will be have more updates soon.
