Lunch Options

I was thinking that the next time we hike at Yellowwood that we would hike 2 loops around the lake and stop for lunch at the picnic area the second time around. Maybe we could try some lunch options. I'm looking at trying things that wont need to be heated up. One of the things I was thinking of is using flower tortillas and adding something to it. I think not setting up the stove during the hike and only use it  in the morning and evening would be best. All we would have to do is get our food out and eat it. And there might not be a good place to set up everything on the trail. But we could plan on eating at a shelter along the way.
What do you think? I am sure we will learn more from members and at events.

  1. I was thinking the same thing. We are going to have plenty of chances to use the stoves in the morning and evening. I like the tortilla thing. We need to figure out what to put in the middle that won't spoil. This all sounds neat and can't wait to try some of the ways to eat on the trail.

  2. I picked up a couple things to try out for lunches and snacks. Aldi has a Trail Mix bar that I take to work that is really good. I will bring you one next time to try out.
I also bought Chicken Salad Mix (a can of chicken salad with crackers). Loaded Mashed Potatoes and a packet of brown gravy. A packet of tuna salad that I thought would go good on a tortilla. And individual packets of peanut butter that also could go on the tortillas. One of the packets have chocolate with it, and will probably be a good dessert.

  3. That sounds good. Where did you get the packs of peanut butter. I have been looking for peanut butter in a packet. Everything you mention sounds good. I am looking at a sleeping bag and a pad on ebay for my birthday. Hope I get them cheap. Look forward to going our again sood. Not sure when since I am going to be on vacation until we go to car camp at Yellowwood SF. Seems like along time away.

  4. I got the packs at Walmart. About 68 cents. 1.15 oz. I haven't tasted them yet.

  5. Tried the tuna salad on a flour tortilla for lunch today. It was pretty good. But it probably wouldn't be enough. It needs to be a bigger package. 2 tortilla full of goodness will probably be needed.

  6. On second thought, I don't think I liked the tuna. Might have messed with my system a little. I like chicken salad better.

  7. Sorry haven't been on the computer in a while. Working on the house with no time to spare. Had to go back to work to get things done. I don't think we need things messing with our systems while we are on the trail so I say go with the chicken. Keep trying things so I won't have to. Ha Ha Laurie said she saw peanut butter at differnt places so I told her to pick me up some. I got my first issue of Backpackers Mag. It has alot of good information in it. Going on vacation in 10 days and can't wait to get back so we can go on our first official trip. Keep looking at different things and I will too and will will make it easy for the trip in October.
